What Does All This Mean to Me as a Plan Sponsor?

Methadose can result in a savings to your plan in two ways:

  1. The elimination of compounding fees for opioid dependence claims, and
  2. Due to Methadose being a concentrated product, by replacing Methadone compounds with Methadose for drug addiction, Methadone prescription expenditure can potentially be reduced by approximately 30%.

Will This Change Affect My Members at the Pharmacy Level?

We anticipate that there will be no impact to your members at point-of-sale.

Why The Change?

The Provincial Drug Plans of Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta, in an effort to reduce costs, have now excluded Methadone compound solution for the treatment of drug addiction and will only reimburse the cost of Methadose.

Effective November 1, 2014, In light of the Provincial Drug Plan changes, ClaimSecure will only reimburse Methadose 10mg/mL for the treatment of opioid dependence in these provinces. This means that Methadone compounds will no longer be considered eligible for opioid dependence; however, ClaimSecure will continue to reimburse for Methadone compound claims - for pain management and for patients who experience an adverse reaction to Methadose.
